Radis Adoptions - Adoption Pregnancy Center
  • Just got a call from an old client. Their daughter is 13 and a star student &  athlete at her school. It is these calls that make my day. No matter what else happens today, knowing this teenager is doing  great is enough. I intend to kiss the wife and both dogs tonight with just a little more joy in my step.
  • Today the Supreme Court of the United States is hearing an ICWA case out of South Carolina.  The fate of a three year little girl rest with these nine jurists.  Does Veronica  stay with her biological father or return to her adoptive parents?  The SCOTUS decision is expected in June.

If you are interested in reading about Baby Veronica. Use your search engine and search for " Baby Veronica ICWA ." If you chose to reseach this case, please read both sides before you form an opinion about whose side is the correct side.

Just ran into an old client. We recognized each other right away. Twenty-two years after the fact. It was great to catch up. Her daughter is going to medical school. Her son into the Marine Corps. It's such a rush to hear these positive stories of how well adopted children are doing.

Adoption is more than a career.
  • February 11

I heard of an interesting case out of New Jersey today. The New Jersey Supreme Court held that prenatal drug use by a mother was not a basis for finding child abuse or neglect.  There needs to be evidence that there is imminent danger to the child or actual evidence of harm to the child.

I hope this frees up more children for direct private placements adoptions without involvement by a social service department bent on fostering.

I read about two interesting cases recently. They are not both adoption cases but have implications to the adoption field.

The first one is EX PARTE HOPE ELISABETH ANKROM, an Alabama case dealing with the offense of chemical endangerment of a child. The Supreme Court held that " offense of chemical endangerment of a child , includes unborn children." it is my understanding the child lived 19 minutes.

With addiction being a problem in the adoption field , testing of birth mother candidates is extremely important. If the birth  mother tests positive are the lawyers...
  • Adoption Day in Los Angeles County, the best! I have three adoption finalizations set for this morning. Three very happy families. Adoption Finalization Day is an important day. Today all the stress is over.

The Judge usually asks me to do a card trick or two which makes adoption more Magical.

  • To all you adoptive parents out there, the Federal tax legislation allows for a tax credit for adoption expenses incurred in 2013.  The maximum tax credit is $12,970 Those with a modified adjusted gross income of $194,580 or less qualify for the full credit. The amount of the credit graduates downward to zero as incomes approach $234,580.

This will help to make  the magic that is adoption more affordable for more  prospective adopting families..

Helena

I am Helena from San Francisco, CA. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about me and my family. I understand that you are facing a very difficult decision in your life. Who should you choose to entrust your child with? I can’t think of a more difficult question. I really admire your courage and respect what you are doing to find the best home for your child.

I hope this brief introduction will give you a glimpse into the person that I am and give you some comfort in making your decision. I look forward to talking to you. Please feel free to contact me anytime!

Helena’s Life

I’ve thought about being a parent for several years now, and I am passionate about building a new life with a child. I am excited about what the future will hold for us -togetherness, the joy of being each other’s family, and making wonderful memories each day as we share our lives! In fact, I can’t think of a better place for a child to grow up than with a person rooted in the same values as his or her mother: selfless, courageous, spirited, good natured, and above all loving.

Children have always played an important part in my life. In addition to having close friends who have children, I also have a great relationship with my cousin’s wonderful son, Sammy – he just turned three! My family is very close. We talk on the phone multiple times a day, whether it’s to marvel at Sammy’s mastery of the sound of the turkey’s “Gobble Gobble” on Thanksgiving, or just to let someone know we are thinking about them. We all can’t wait to welcome a new member to the family!

Home Sweet Home

I’ve lived for fifteen years now in a very happy, sunny home. I live in a nice San Francisco neighborhood called Nob Hill which has great family restaurants, coffee shops, a nice sunny park, and a wonderful playground – all within walking distance. It’s really a great neighborhood for raising a family!

Family and friends are always dropping by on weekends as they love where I live – they say it’s like being on vacation. I’ve got a great panoramic view of the city from my living room windows – you can even see the beautiful blue sparkling water of the bay! My beautiful condo building also has a fabulous swimming pool – the children absolutely love it!

On the Fourth of July everyone comes to my home to get the best view of the San Francisco fireworks right from my living room – while helping themselves to plenty of food all evening long in a great fun atmosphere. The children have a wonderful time as well as adults of all ages.

Travel and adventure make my life special and help me to appreciate this world we share. I’ve traveled around North America and Europe, and have seen so many amazing things. Many summers I also share a beach house in Hawaii with my cousin, her husband and their children - everyone is very excited about seeing the next child in the house learn to water-ski! I can’t wait to share the fun of exploring the world with a child!

Meet Helena

I grew up in Pennsylvania, and some time after college, I moved to California as my whole family had moved here. My sister, who is an elementary school teacher, mother and father all live nearby, and are also very excited and supportive about my decision to adopt a child. Everyone can’t wait to see another happy face around the dinner table at any holiday meal, family birthday, or just a fun supper for no reason at all!

I work for a major Bay Area company and manage projects for healthcare. I’ve been developing my career for over 20 years now and enjoy the work that I do.

When not working, I’m involved in charity work, including work at the local animal shelter, and helping out at the local food bank.

Everyone says that I’m meant to be a mom when they see how children react to me. I try to be a humble person, but I do seem to have a special way of connecting with children. At parties when children are around, I’ll always be sure to spend time with them building with blocks or Leggos, or playing some other game. I have the pleasure of knowing that I helped my cousin kick off his training wheels, and learn to ride a bike with my patience and encouragement.

More Fun Stuff I would love to share with a boy or girl: cooking, hiking, city walks, sailing, giggles and excitement!

Yum!

One of my pleasures at home is cooking. I believe in eating healthy, so I try to make home-cooked dinners as often as I can. Whenever I have guests they are always invited to share my table for an extra-special home-cooked meal. My neighbors often tell me that they can smell my delicious dinners when they walk outside my door. My parents and grandparents taught me to cook, and my great-grandfather was an award-winning baker. I am excited about passing on my family’s secret recipes to the next generation.

Bouncing on the Waves!

Sailing is also one of my favorite activities that I enjoy with lots of family and friends and I can’t wait to share my joy for sailing with a child - it’s such a fun and social activity and the San Francisco Bay right here is just such a beautiful place for this activity! When we come back from a day of sun and fun, we often have a cook-out barbecue for everyone or we all go to a nice family restaurant. It’s good to rest your head on your pillow at night, still imagining the gentle rocking of the boat, dreaming about all the wonder and magic of the day!

Up and Down the Hills We Go…

I love to stay active and go hiking on the beautiful hills overlooking the San Francisco Bay. I also enjoy going for long walks up and down the steep hills of the city, stopping for a favorite frozen yogurt, or peeking in the windows of some delightful shops along the way. The sound of the cable cars whirring up the hills, and the rhythmical bells announcing the next stop, add a special excitement to my walks that only San Francisco can bring.

The Thrill of it All!

I’m so excited about sharing my zest for life with a child.

My Thoughts on Parenting

I have reached a point in my life where I am truly ready to be a parent. I would love to share what I have learned from life, and offer my love and guidance to a child who needs me. I promise to meet every challenge as a parent and to do my best to assure the brightest future for the child. I believe that a child is a gift, and it is my job to make certain he or she knows he is truly wanted, protected, and loved unconditionally, twenty-four-hours a day, regardless of the responsibility, or sacrifice called upon me.

I plan on taking time off from work when the baby arrives at my home. My job provides a lot of flexibility. First of all, I am given a very generous amount of time to stay home with the baby initially without working at all, and even after that, my job allows me to work from home, which is so convenient. Even with all of that, I plan on having help in the house to assist me. I plan on being a very active parent with my child, making sure they know I am always there for them.

Above all, I will do everything in my power to make sure that my child grows up to love life and be happy.

Open adoption … the right choice for me”

I believe that the story of a person’s birth is both magical and essential for one’s sense of identity. In addition, relationships can only be built upon honesty. This is the reason that open adoption is the right policy for me. I look forward to sharing the story of how my family was created. My son or daughter will know they are adopted as early as he or she starts to understand the concept. He or she will know that the reason they are with me is first and foremost based on your love.

Thank you

Thank you for considering me in your choice and taking the time to read my profile. I am looking forward to meeting you and learning more about your wishes.

All The Best,

Helena
